Portland marina is a privately-owned marina sporting an 860 m long breakwater, designed to provide shelter for the network of pontoons housing the moorings for up to 600 berths.

Since excavation started for the Weymouth Relief Road, the venue for the 2012 Olympic Sailing events, archaeologists have uncovered more than a dozen skeletons at an ancient burial site - with another 2 dig sites scheduled for excavation before the road is completed…

Ministers have endorsed more than £79 million for the Weymouth Relief Road, designed to support the upcoming 2012 Olympic Sailing activities, which will affect ancient woodland in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB).

The government approved the relief road through the Dorset countryside to Weymouth in December 2008, with environmental campaigners finally admitting defeat in their battle to prevent ancient woodland and burial sites from being disturbed…
